 We use (The) عند التحدث عن أشياء معينة معروفة :
The sky – the moon – Cairo is the capital of Egypt-the Quran-the Bible-The Cairo Tower-the Times Magazine-
للتحدث عن جنس معين من الحيوانات ويستخدم المفرد للدلالة على الكل: the elephant – the lion – the giraffe
 The elephant is familiar in the streets of India.
 The lion is a fierce animal.
مع الاكتشافات والاختراعات : the computer – the internet – the radio
عندما يصبح الاسم معرفاً بذكره للمرة الثانية :  I saw a boy and a girl. The boy was injured.
تستخدم مع بعض الصفات لتدل على مجموعة أو طبقة من الناس والفعل بعد الصفات يكون جمع : the rich – the poor – the disabled – the dead – the young – the old etc.
 The poor are in need of our help.
learn , play the + آلة موسيقية
play the piano – the guitar – the drum – the violin – percussion etc.
مع الكلمات الآتية :
the cinema – the theatre – the office – the chemist’s
مع الدرجة الثالثة من الصفات :
the youngest – the fastest – the most precious
(The + ..er , the + …er)مع هذه الصيغة لتوضح الأفكار المترابطة

قبل الإسم المعرف بعبارة وصفية أو بالإضافة (of)
 I know the boy who won the race.
 The hair of the girl.
 The Sudan – the Himalayas – the Nile
 The Red Sea – the Sahara – The Gobi

 We don’t use (The)
عندما نتحدث عن أشياء بوجه عام :  Plants don’t grow without water.
 Teachers are the backbone of education.
ولكن عند التخصيص نستخدم (the)
 The teachers in our school are efficient.
مع الأسماء التي لاتعد :
Food (tea – coffee – milk – bread etc)
Substances (oil – glass – wood etc.)
Activities (smoking – running etc.)
Sports (football – tennis etc)
Abstract nouns (beauty – love – freedom etc.)
School subjects (science – chemistry – technology – physics etc.)
Languages (English – French – Arabic – etc.)
 Ex.
 Milk is good for you.
 Glass can be recycled and reused more than once.
 Walking and running are sports.
 Freedom is the most precious thing in life.
 I like physics but I don’t like chemistry.

مع أسماء الوجبات: breakfast – lunch – dinner – supper
 I have breakfast early.
مع الأماكن الآتية مادام الذهاب إليها من أجل الغرض الأساسي منها :
 Home-school-bed-hospital-prison-mosque-church
 I go to school at seven oclock..طالب أو معلم
 I went to the school to ask about my son. ولى أمر
 I go home at two oclock.

 The telephone, the radio, TV
 I heard the news on the radio.
 I watched a nice film on TV.

 Life
 Life is not always fun. الحياة بصفة عامة (بدون أداة)
 The life, (which) he leads, is very hard. حياة شخص محدد
 He leads a hard life. (a/an + صفة + life)

 at the top/bottom/back/front  in the middle  on the left / right
 on top of / in front of
 a country دولة - the country الريف
 on holiday – on purpose متعمد - on duty في الخدمة - on display معروض
